Historic Consensus Balances Urban and Rural Reserves

Together with numerous stakeholders, the four governments managing sustainable growth in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area reached a historic consensus on Urban and Rural Reserves designations. This consensus ensures that more than 272,000 acres of farmland, forestland, and natural resources are protected for future generations and identifies nearly 28,000 acres for future population growth, jobs, homes and neighborhoods. No other metropolitan region has attempted a comprehensive program of this magnitude. Kearns & West facilitated the two-year process as the governments balanced diverse constituent interests to adopt a 50-year plan that will guide collaborative development and conservation of reserves.
