On October 9th, Janet Thomson moderated a panel at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI)/National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Transmission Siting Conference. The five panelists, representing NGOs and transmission developers, discussed the status of regional transmission planning activities in the western and eastern US. Panelists discussed how the recently-developed transmission planning products can help developers coordinate better across their engineering, planning and siting divisions, make a stronger case to regulators regarding siting options, and explain to stakeholders why particular siting approaches are preferable. The panel presentations are on the conference website here.
